K-Pop Spotlight: BTOB (비투비)

Hello everyone! 

This weekend my post is going to be something other than a review...I am going to talk about K-Pop! Today I am dedicating my post to the 7 member boy group: BTOB! BTOB (비투비) is pronounced "B-to-B," which stands for "Born to Beat." The first time I saw their group name, I said "b-tob" haha. I like the name of their fan club too, melodies. Isn't that so cute? ^^

So initially, I wasn't exactly a fan of their music. The first album I heard was Press Play and I wasn't a big fan of the upbeat sound. I decided to give BTOB a second try when I heard 아버지 (Father), Irresistable Lips (그 입술을 뺏었어), and Insane (비밀). 

Interesting to note: Actually, 비밀 (pronounced bimil) actually means secret in Korean. I think a lot of the time, when they have a title with English and Korean in parenthesis, they completely rename songs and give it a new English title. They rarely have translations...^^; I wonder why.

I then took a re-listen to Press Play, which I had barely listened to, and fell in love. Go figure. Giving things a second try can be beneficial ;) I particularly liked their song WOW. The choreography is amazingly impressive, the song is upbeat and catchy, and I like the lyrics. BTOB is a pretty new group, they only debuted in 2012. I like all of their albums so far, including their newest, Thriller-- which seems to have a Michael Jackson-ish concept.

So here's a little info on the 7 members:

Eunkwang: Main Vocalist, Leader (Age: 23)

Minhyuk: Vocalist, Rapper, Face of the group (Age: 23)

Changsub: Vocalist (Age: 22)

Hyunsik: Vocalist, Dancer (Age: 21) 

Peniel: Vocalist, Dancer (Age 20)

Ilhoon: Vocalist, Rapper (Age: 19)

Sungjae: Vocalist, Rapper, Maknae (Age:19)

Although they are not super popular, BTOB holds a special place in my heart. They hold their own vocally and are great dancers, with cute and down-to-earth personalities. They were originally supposed to be a boy band and I heard they trained for a long time, so I guess that is why I think they are so well-rounded. 

But really, you can hear how powerful their vocals are in Father, a gorgeous and breathtaking ballad! Eunkwang and Changsub are quite the crooners, with beautiful voices. The only member I am not sure can hold his own is Peniel. He is kind of derpy and I really like him (he always makes me laugh), but he only gets a few rap lines in English. I don't think he's the greatest rapper, but they probably make him rap the English lines because he is Korean American and fluent in English.

Overall I suggest you take a listen to BTOB! They are an underrated group and I really love them, and like all of their albums. I am mainly posting because they are having their comeback in two days!!!! It is called 뛰뛰빵빵: Beep Beep. It is the sound of a car horn honking. Judging by their concept images and all the music teasers, I know I am gonna love this album too.
